The Russian official reportedly linked to Natalia Veselnitskaya and her 2016 meeting with Trump campaign officials at Trump Tower was killed in a helicopter crash this week, according to The Moscow Times.
Russian Deputy Attorney General Saak Albertovich Karapetyan was one of three people identified in the crash, none of whom lived.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed to news agencies that deputy prosecutor Saak Karapetyan was among the victims.
“Early indications suggest Saak Albertovich, 58, was among the passengers aboard this helicopter,” the Prosecutor General’s spokesman Alexander Kurennoy was quoted as saying by the state-run TASS news agency.
The Daily Beast reported earlier this year that Karapetyan set up the Trump Tower meeting between Veselnitskaya and several members of President Trump’s campaign team: Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner.
The publication also noted that Karapetyan was “from the same rogue department that was apparently responsible for offering intel on Hillary Clinton to be shared at the Trump Tower meeting and the Kremlin’s further plots to influence U.S. politics.”
