The commencement of this investigation follows the public testimony of former FBI Director James Comey.

Mr. Comey claims that the former Attorney General asked him to refer to the Clinton email investigation as a “matter“.

Mr. Comey famously came out publicly to announce that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had not violated the law, but had operated her private email servers with a degree of sloppiness.

The Trump White House later claimed it fired Mr. Comey because of his handling of the Clinton email investigation.
