Senate GOP Blocks Gun Control Bill As School Shooting Unfolds In California


As Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith blocked consideration of a gun control bill, a school in California reeled over a shooting.

Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Missouri blocked an attempt by Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) on Thursday to bring up the universal gun background check bill previously passed by the House, according to Bloomberg News reporter Sahil Kapur.

As this was taking place, yet another school shooting was happening in Southern California.

ABC News reported that one person was dead and five others hospitalized after a shooting on the campus of Saugus High School in Santa Clarita. Sheriff Alex Villanueva told the news outlet that the suspected gunman — a student at the school — was in custody and receiving medical treatment.
