Senator Rand Paul said on Wednesday that the Kurds "should be thanking us and throwing rose petals” because the U.S. "saved the Kurds from being beheaded and massacred by ISIS,” according to ABC News.
Axios reported that the Kentucky Republican reportedly also called the Kurdish forces “ingrates” for throwing rotten vegetables at American troops as they withdrew from northern Syria.
President Donald Trump was heavily criticized this month by Democrats and Republicans alike for his decision to abandon America’s allies as Turkey planned an anti-Kurd offensive in the region.
Last week, Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said, "What we have done to the Kurds will stand as a blood stain in the annals of American history."
