Sen. Rand Paul Calls For Arresting Citizens First, Investigating Afterward
After protesters swarmed Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) outside the White House last week as he left President Trump’s acceptance speech, he went on Fox News and said the FBI should investigate but would have to first arrest people.
- Reuters reported that “Paul told Fox News Channel he believes the group chanting his name and pushing against his impromptu police escort was paid to incite a riot,” though the senator “did not say who he believes financially backed them or offer any evidence for his contention.”
- Paul said: “I believe there are going to be people who were involved with the attack on us that actually were paid to come here and are not from Washington, D.C., and are sort of paid to be anarchists.”
- He then added: "The FBI needs to investigate but the only way you can do it is you have to arrest people.”
- Reuters noted that video shows Paul, his wife, and the police being surrounded by a crowd but at no point is Paul seen being physically attacked.
