White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Sunday that Trump and Kim Jong Un agree in their assessment of former Vice President Joe Biden, who the president has repeatedly blamed for leaving a “mess” in North Korea, according to Slate. In a tweet on Sunday, President Trump called Biden a “swampman.”
The statements come days after Trump addressed the recent North Korean missile tests by saying he is confident in his relationship with the North Korean leader.
Both Trump and the North Korean state media have notched up their criticisms of the 2020 Democrat presidential candidate. A late May report from that country’s central news agency referred to Biden as “reckless and senseless, seized by ambition for power,” as well as a “fool of low IQ.”
Sanders said the previous Democratic administration created “messes” in North Korea that Trump has started to clean up. “We shouldn't even be in the position that we're in to have to deal with North Korea at the level we are if they had done their job in the first place," she added.
Biden’s campaign spokesperson responded to the comments, televised on NBC’s Meet the Press, by saying that “it’s no surprise that North Korea would prefer that Donald Trump remains in the White House," given the former vice president’s record of “standing up for American values and interests.”
