SANDERS: TRUMP WAS BEING “SARCASTIC” WHEN HE THANKED PUTIN FOR EXPELLING U.S. DIPLOMATS

The White House released a statement claiming President Donald Trump was being “sarcastic” when he thanked Russia for expelling U.S. diplomats.

During a press conference yesterday, the President thanked Russia for expelling U.S. diplomats from the country. He said that he was thankful because Russia’s move would lower payroll costs for the U.S. government.

I want to thank him [Putin] because we’re trying to cut down our payroll and as far as I’m concerned I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll.” The President said this when asked about his response to Russia’s expulsion of U.S. diplomats.

The President’s comment caused outrage across the political spectrum. Michael McFaul, the former U.S. Ambassador to Russia wrote on Twitter, “There is nothing conservative, Republican, patriotic or MAGA-ish about appeasement of Putin. Nothing.”
