Romney Will Vote For Subpoena In Senate’s Biden, Burisma Probe
Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) indicated on Friday that he will vote to subpoena a former consultant tied to Ukrainian gas company Burisma as Senate Republicans continue their investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, according to The Hill.
Romney’s spokeswoman, Liz Johnson, announced the senator’s decision to support the subpoena.
“Senator Romney has expressed his concerns to Chairman Johnson, who has confirmed that any interview of the witness would occur in a closed setting without a hearing or public spectacle. He will therefore vote to let the Chairman proceed to obtain the documents that have been offered," Johnson said.
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), who chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, is looking to subpoena former Blue Star Strategies consultant Andrii Telizhenko, who has indicated his desire to cooperate with the probe but said he is bound by a nondisclosure agreement.
With Romney’s support, the chairman should have enough votes to follow through with the subpoena, as Republicans hold an 8-6 advantage on the committee.
Romney had said on Thursday that he believed Johnson’s investigation into Hunter Biden and Burisma appeared “political,” telling reporters: “There's no question but that the appearance of looking into Burisma and Hunter Biden appears political, and I think people are tired of these kind of political investigations.”
