Retired General Barry McCaffrey said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump and his administration are effectively behaving like leaders of a “third-world” nation.
McCaffrey’s words came after Ukraine ambassador William Taylor testified before Congress that Trump linked Ukraine’s military aid to investigations that would benefit him politically, according to RawStory.
“The Trump White House backed by [Secretary of State Mike] Pompeo acts like a third world nation,” he tweeted. “Incredible trickery, deception, and arrogance mugging the Ukrainians. Withholding Congressional approved military funds for domestic political purposes was chilling.”
Taylor’s testimony was viewed as damning by House Democrats. The longtime civil servant’s opening statement “described how the European Union ambassador Gordon Sondland told Ukrainian officials that the president wanted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to publicly announce during a CNN interview that he would be launching investigations into former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.”
