The bill would also require people to retire later in order to pay the money back.

GOP Senators Mike Lee and Joni Ernst have introduced the “Cradle Act” which would allow parents of newborns to use Social Security savings to pay for time off after the birth or adoption of their child. Parents who take advantage of the program would then delay their retirement in order to pay back the money.

Lee says, “I think most people would look at this as an opportunity that they might not otherwise have. An opportunity to benefit from payments that they’ve been making already for years.”

Ernst says that the U.S. is behind the rest of the industrialized world on this issue, which is why they’re stepping up to address the problem.

“We think it’s time to catch up with other countries” she said.

You call THAT catching up??? Hahahaha! Yeah stupid people might think it sounds good until they try to retire. News Flash. In other countries the Government pays for that time and it is MUCH longer than this stingy place.

Would they delay their retirement for the same amount of time they took off?

If America is so far behind other countries in regards to maternal pay, they are right. But if that is so important, let's right the ship with single payer health care.

Big corporate tax break, that we were told would somehow benefit us, doesnt. Let's take Netflix for example. They paid 0 in state or federal taxes but are now raising their prices when the middle class expected to receive around the same refund as 2017, received less or none at all. that's where they should get their money. Republicans have always tried to destroy the middle class.
