Report: Tulsi Gabbard Threatens To Sue Hillary Clinton For Defamation
Attorneys for Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard demanded that Hillary Clinton retract comments she made about the Hawaii congresswoman characterizing her as Russia’s favored candidate in the 2020 race.
The Hill reported that Gabbard’s lawyers accused the former secretary of state of defaming their client with her statements.
"Your statement is defamatory, and we demand that you retract it immediately," the attorneys wrote in a letter.
Clinton never mentioned Gabbard by name but the implication was clear when she said, “She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her, so far.”
Clinton also said “they” are grooming Gabbard to run as a third-party candidate next year against the eventual Democratic nominee — but Gabbard maintains she has no plans to run a spoiler campaign.
Clarifying Clinton’s remarks after the fact, a spokesman said “they” referred to the Republicans, not the Russians.
The Hill noted that Gabbard has garnered criticism for some of her foreign policy positions, including U.S. military involvement in Syria.
