Report: Trump WH Is Intentionally Holding Back Scientific Research

Experts warn that the Trump administration's treatment of science is at a crisis point.

The Trump administration's treatment of science has reached a crisis point, according to a report by the Guardian.

The National Task Force on Rule of Law and Democracy, comprised of former government officials, released a report on Thursday claiming that U.S. scientific advancement is in jeopardy.

The report asserts that research findings are being manipulated for political gain and that scientists are being targeted by the Trump administration for ideological reasons. The report says that the Trump administration "not only politicize[s] scientific and technical research on a range of topics but also, at times, to undermine the value of objective facts themselves."

Government safeguards put in place to protect the integrity of scientific research were weakened by both the Bush and Obama administrations. These safeguards have been further damaged by the Trump administration.

Trump has publicly attacked science in ways that no other president ever has. For instance, Trump claimed Hurricane Dorian would hit Alabama, and cited this claim by holding up a doctored map.

It was later reported that officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) were subject to termination if they did not support the president's claim.
