As the coronavirus raged across the U.S. and the death toll reached towards 80,000 on Sunday, President Donald Trump went on a tweeting spree. One particular tweet stood out as tone-deaf, reports the Haaretz.
“Game on! We are thrilled to announce the reopening of @trumpgolfla beginning Saturday May 9th! We look forward to welcoming you back [golfer emoji] Book your tee time now!” Trump retweeted from Trump Los Angeles.
“So great to see our Country starting to open back up again!” he captioned. The president celebrated the opening of his property in a time when his business was hit hard by the pandemic.
- In addition to pushing the U.S. economy to reopen amid the coronavirus, Trump and Vice President Mike Pence continue to conduct business as usual even though at least two White House staffers tested positive for the virus. Pence was supposed to be in isolation but returned to the White House on Monday. The only reported change in protocol is having staff wear face masks in the West Wing.
- "I felt no vulnerability whatsoever," the president said, adding he felt they were controlling everything "very well."
- Trump and Pence are reportedly both tested for the virus daily.
- Law states that if the president and vice president become incapacitated from the disease, then Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would assume the role of the president.
