National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien has tested positive for the coronavirus, Bloomberg News reported on Monday.
- One person familiar with the situation told the news outlet that O’Brien has been out of the office since last week.
- O’Brien reportedly contracted the virus after attending a family event and “has been isolating at home while still running the National Security Council, doing most of his work by phone.”
- Bloomberg noted that O’Brien is the official closest to President Trump to have tested positive for the virus. The national security adviser and his senior staff are tested daily.
- The White House did not immediately comment on the development.
The U.S. has now seen “more than 4.2 million cases and 146,935 deaths,” according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
