According to The Hill, Trump has already picked a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsburg. Trump said he is “saving” Judge Amy Barrett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th circuit to replace RBG.
Barrett was a popular conservative pick to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy before Justice Brett Kavanaugh was officially nominated.
Since Kennedy’s retirement, Trump has allegedly made clear his hope to replace Ginsburg with Barrett. On separate occasions, he told people, “I’m saving her for Ginsburg.”
Barrett’s opposition to abortion rights would likely have lead Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) to vote her down if she had been nominated for Supreme Court.
Ginsburg, 86, missed several cases in January due to her cancer surgery in December.
