According to Bloomberg, President Trump briefed President Putin on special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reported that on Friday, they had a phone conversation that lasted for over an hour. She told reporters that they “very, very briefly” discussed the report, which investigated Russian collusion with President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Mueller found no evidence of collusion.
Sanders said that the two leaders discussed the lack of collusion and said, “which I’m pretty sure both leaders were well aware of well before the conversation took place.”
Mueller’s report said that the investigation “established that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome” and Trump’s campaign “expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.”
Still, the probe “did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
Trump and Putin also discussed North Korea’s nuclear weapons, the situation in Venezuela, and the possibility of renewing the nuclear arms treaty known as START during the phone call.
