Report: Rand Paul May Force Hunter Biden To Testify At Trump’s Impeachment Trial

Paul said that he is considering a forced vote to allow Trump to present his own witnesses, but would need a majority.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) may force a vote that would require Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, to testify at Trump’s impeachment trial, according to Politico

Paul said on Thursday that he’s considering forcing votes on motions in the president’s impeachment trial to allow Trump to bring his own witnesses, including calling Hunter Biden as a witness for his dealings at a Ukrainian energy company.

“I believe very strongly the president should be able to call his own witnesses,” Paul told reporters on Thursday. “The rules that are put forward will be amendable, so yes I will consider strongly that the president should get his full due process, which to me means bringing in his own witnesses.”

However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) urged Republicans to limit divisive votes to bring in witnesses. Such votes would require a majority, meaning that Democrats and a few Republicans can defeat them easily.

Republican senators facing reelection who are trying to balance their support for Trump and maintain their independent voters are likely to face difficult decisions.
