Senator Lieberman, once on the Democratic ticket with Vice President Al Gore, became increasingly conservative and hawkish following the 2000 election. In 2006, the former Senator ran as an independent, instead of as a Democrat, in his final run for office.
President Donald Trump reportedly gets on well with Mr. Lieberman. The former senator currently works for the law firm Kasowitz, Benson, and Torres LLP, a firm that has a history of representing Mr. Trump. Senate Democrats have said this could be an issue for his nomination. However, according to Politico, both Democrats and Republican senators generally like him.
