Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) Says The COVID Pandemic Is a Hoax Meant to Hurt the GOP
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has suggested that the Covid-19 pandemic is in fact part of a hoax concocted by the Democrats and the media, according to the San Antonio Current.
- In a chat with right-wing radio host Steve Deace, Roy insinuated that shadowy forces are encouraging fear of the coronavirus for their political agenda:
"It is all about November and all about reclaiming power in November. And I think on November 4, there'll be a magic awakening on how we suddenly beat the virus."
- This is not the first time that Roy has drawn attention for his over the top comments. At the start of the pandemic, Roy drew outcry after he compared stay-at-home orders to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to the policies in Nazi Germany.
- Former Democratic Texas state senator Wendy Davis chastised Roy’s comments in an emailed statement:
"Unfortunately, it’s exactly what voters have come to expect of Congressman Roy, who has consistently downplayed the severity of this crisis and has advocated that we defund schools that don’t reopen in the midst of dangerously high outbreaks, while voting against common sense measures to provide relief to folks, like free and more widely available COVID testing, paid sick leave and unemployment insurance."
