Historian Michael Beschloss added, “I can’t believe that I would have seen a president do something like this.”

Noted presidential historian Michael Beschloss was “sickened” to see Monday morning that President Donald Trump had the White House flag restored to full-staff just one day after the passing of Senator John McCain, disrespectfully breaking with historical custom.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Beschloss addressed the matter as a preface to the question asked of him, Mediaite reported, saying:

“I can also chime in, I find it sickening that the flag over the White House is not at half-staff this morning,” addding (sic) “I can’t believe that I would have seen a president do something like this.”

Numerous media outlets have noted Monday that custom dictates the White House flag to continue at half-staff until the senator is buried.

Trump's decision to defy such precedent is a sign of disrespect toward McCain.

Beschloss, who is an award-winning author of nine books focusing largely on previous presidents, joined the show to discuss the life and career of the late senator.
