Powerful Magnitude 7.7 Earthquake Hits Between Cuba And Jamaica
On Tuesday, a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake was detected between Jamaica and Eastern Cuba, according to Yahoo News.
The effect of the earthquake was felt from Mexico to Florida but, fortunately, no casualties or severe damages have been reported thus far. The earthquake hit at 2:10 PM and the epicenter of the earthquake was 6 miles beneath the ocean's surface, relatively shallow for an oceanic quake.
In Santiago, Cuba individuals reported minor disturbances. Belkis Guerrero works in a Catholic cultural center and said, “we were all sitting and we felt the chairs move... we heard the noise of everything moving around.”
Furthermore, the US Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba reported minor disturbances as well. Some buildings in South Florida were evacuated in a proactive attempt to prevent injuries.
