Newsweek reports that Katrina Pierson, a senior advisor to Trump’s 2020 campaign, deflected criticism over the White House's lack of diversity by comparing Trump's White House to President Abraham Lincoln's (1861-1865) in terms of diversity.
In an appearance on MSNBC, MSNBC host Al Sharpton asked Pierson to name one black staffer in the Trump White House.
Pierson told Sharpton that, "there's plenty of black people in the West Wing," but she was unable to name any of them.
“I’m not going to participate in the attempt to make this all about race," Pierson said. She continued, "It is ridiculous. How many black people were in Abraham Lincoln’s West Wing?”
She fired back. "Is Abraham Lincoln a racist because he didn't have a black person in his White House? This is insane. This is an insane discussion."
