Pennsylvania State Senator Arrested For Possession Of Child Pornography

The "family values" Republican told police he has been experiencing “some personal problems.”

Pennsylvania Republican state Senator Mike Folmer was charged with possession of child pornography on Tuesday after child pornography was discovered on his cellphone by authorities, according to The Washington Post.

Police were tipped off to Folmer’s activity by the blogging site Tumblr, which “found that a user had uploaded an image of child pornography using its application.”

Officials said the tip ultimately led them to the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, home of the married grandfather of seven, where a search turned up child pornography images on the politician’s phone.

According to the Patriot-News’s review of charging documents, Folmer told police that he received the images via Tumblr and was having “some personal problems.”

Democratic Governor Tom Wolf called for the “family values” Republican to resign immediately, saying the charges against Folmer are “disgusting and beyond comprehension.”

“We elect leaders to serve as a voice for those who do not have the ability to advocate for their own needs, demanding that they will protect our children, families, and communities,” Wolf said in a statement. “The charges against Senator Folmer are disgusting and beyond comprehension, and show he has taken advantage of the trust and privilege afforded by the people of Pennsylvania. He should immediately resign.”

Folmer faces charges including “sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.”
