Donald Trump Jr. claimed that Democrats hope for the coronavirus to kill millions of people and Vice President Mike Pence was asked to comment on the president’s son’s assertion, to which he refused to disagree.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” hosted by Jake Tapper, a clip of Trump Jr. was shown to Pence. In the video, Trump Jr. said: “Anything that they can use to try to hurt Trump, they will. For them to try to take a pandemic and seemingly hope that it comes here and kills millions of people so they could end Donald Trump’s streak of winning is a new level of sickness.”

Tapper then asked Pence, “Can we agree that neither Democrats nor Republicans want Americans to get the coronavirus and die from it...but you don’t believe that the Democrats want people to contract the coronavirus and die?”

Pence refused to directly answer the question.

“This is no time for politics,” the vice president said. “And, frankly, I think that was Don Jr.’s point. That there has been some very strong rhetoric directed at the president by some members of Congress.”

“You don’t think that was strong rhetoric [from Donlad Trump Jr.]?” Tapper continued.

“But responding to the kind of things that have been hurled is understandable,” Pence responded, before adding that the Trump administration has “set the politics aside.”

“I continue to believe that we have an opportunity to come together. And with the proper expertise, and the proper resources and the prayers of millions of Americans, we’re going to get through this,” Pence concluded.
