PAUL RYAN: I WON’T DO TOWN HALLS DUE TO PROTESTS AND “SECURITY CONCERNS”

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) will not do any town halls due to protests and “security concerns”.

Congressman Ryan made these comments while speaking at a Boy Scouts event in Wisconsin. Instead of in-person town halls, the Speaker said that he would emphasize telephone town hall.

According to the Hill, Mr. Ryan told the Boy Scouts that, “Aside from the obvious security concerns, what we have found is there are people who are trying to come in from out of the district to disrupt town hall meetings and not have a civil discussion, so what I have been doing is looking for new and creative ways to interact with my constituents in a civil way.”

In February this year, protesters held a mock town hallfor Speaker Ryan after he chose not to have his own. Three hundred people attended February’s mock town hall. During the town hall, a brown chair stood in place of where Mr. Ryan would have been had he attended.
