House Speaker Paul Ryan defended his call to prayer after a shooting last year, saying "prayer works".

As he is wont to do, House Speaker Paul Ryan called for more prayer following the school shooting in Florida that took 17 lives, also saying officials need to avoid a "knee jerk" reaction to the incident.

"It's just a horrific, horrific, horrible shooting," Ryan said. "I think we need to pray, and our hearts go out to these victims. And I think, as public-policy makers, we don't just knee jerk before we even have all the facts and the data."

Ryan's statement to the local Wisconsin radio station was not his first recommending prayer after a shooting. Following the church shooting in Texas last year which left 26 people dead, Ryan said, "The people of Sutherland Springs need our prayers right now.”

In defending that remark from critics calling for legislative action, the House Speaker said praying "is the right thing to do" because "prayer works".

“It’s disappointing. It’s sad, and this is what you’ll get from the far secular left. People who do not have faith, don’t understand faith, I guess I’d have to say,” Ryan told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle” when asked about the criticism.

“And it is the right thing to do, is to pray in moments like this because you know what? Prayer works.”

Yep - he's right! Prayer works great when your goal is to change nothing whatsoever and continue to serve your masters at the NRA instead of protecting our children.
