Bloomberg is reporting that Paul Manafort alerted authorities about Trump, Jr.’s meeting with Kremlin-connected attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya.

“In fact, Manafort had alerted authorities to a controversial meeting on June 9, 2016, involving Trump’s son Donald Jr., other campaign representatives and a Russian lawyer promising damaging information on Hillary Clinton, according to people familiar with the matter. The president and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were dragged into the matter as details repeatedly emerged that contradicted the initial accounts of that meeting.”

Donald Trump, Jr. met with a Kremlin-connected lawyer after she promised him damaging information about Sec. Hillary Clinton according to the New York Times.

As the Intellectualist previously, two weeks following Donald Trump’s Republican nomination victory, Trump campaign advisers met with an attorney connected to Kremlin senior officials.

This episode is the first confirmed meeting between a Russian national and the campaign. Natalia Veselnitskaya is the Russian attorney that met with Mr. Trump.

She is best known for her legal attacks against the Magnitsky Act, a law that blacklists certain Russian officials from entering the U.S. and using the U.S. banking system. The Magnitsky Act was named in honor of Sergei L. Magnitsky, a Russian attorney, and accountant, who was likely murdered by the Russian state.

Some say Mr. Magnitsky was murdered by the Kremlin after he produced proof tying it to a massive fraud perpetrated by senior Russian officials.

In response to the Magnitsky Act, the Russian Duma (Russia’s rubber-stamp parliament) passed a law that outlawed U.S. adoption of Russian children.

In March 2017, Mr. Magnitsky’s attorney was thrown from his fourth-floor apartment building in Moscow.
