On Eve Of 9/11, Trump Says "We're Getting Along Pretty Well With The Taliban"

Earlier this summer, Trump brushed off intelligence reports indicating that Russia paid the Taliban to kill U.S. troops.

President Donald Trump said during his Thursday press briefing, on the eve of 9/11, that the United States is “getting along pretty well with the Taliban.”

Trump also said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would be traveling to the Middle East this weekend for peace talks between Afghanistan’s government and the Taliban.

The president’s statement comes after news earlier in the summer that intelligence reports indicated Russia paid the Taliban to kill U.S. troops, an issue Trump admitted in July he had not yet raised during his calls with Vladimir Putin.
