Nunes: Now That Lev Parnas Has Gone Public, I Do Remember Our Phone Call
Rep. Devin Nunes’ recollection of speaking on the phone with Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas was given a boost when Parnas began spilling the beans on primetime television Wednesday night, according to The Daily Beast.
Previously, the California Republican claimed he could not remember receiving a call from Parnas, despite phone records indicating the two connected on more than one occasion.
Later, Nunes offered that he did in fact recall the eight-minute phone call but insisted it had been Parnas’ wife who called him and not Parnas himself. He claimed to have passed the call off to his staff, saying that is normal procedure when receiving a phone call from someone he does not know.
But on Wednesday night, Parnas blew the story wide open, appearing on MSNBC with Rachel Maddow to claim that President Donald Trump was fully aware of his activity, alongside Giuliani and others, regarding the Ukraine scandal.
Nunes immediately went on Fox News to proclaim his memory about talking with Parnas had suddenly returned.
Why did the staunch Trump ally say he had not spoken with Parnas? Nunes claimed “that the information was ‘brand new’ at the time and he just didn’t ‘recognize the name Parnas,’” adding “that he was able to recall ‘where he was at the time’ and now ‘remembered that call, which was very odd and random,’” The Daily Beast reported.
Asked whether the two men discussed former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, Nunes claimed the first time that he “heard the name Yovanovitch was not until this impeachment sham started.”
