Nikki Haley: There Is Absolutely No Basis For Impeaching Or Convicting Trump
Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, who served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under President Donald Trump, said this week that there is no “basis” to impeach the former president.
In an appearance on Fox News, Haley told host Laura Ingraham that “the actions of the president post-Election Day” were “not great,” adding that “what happened on Jan. 6 was not great.”
Haley was referring to the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob hoping to overturn the election — a group that Trump incited through weeks of lying about voter fraud and claims that the election was rigged.
Despite his actions, Haley opined: “Does he deserve to be impeached? Absolutely not.” She added that she would “absolutely” vote against convicting Trump.
“I don’t even think there’s a basis for impeachment... Now they’re going to turn around and bring about impeachment yet they say they’re for unity... I mean at some point I mean give the man a break. I mean move on,” she said.
Haley said that impeachment is “not going to bring our country together, that’s only dividing our country.”
