Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Democrat Jaime Harrison had been in a dead heat leading up to this week.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) leads Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison by 6 points in a new Morning Consult poll, according to The Hill.

  • The poll shows Graham leading Harrison 48 percent to 42 percent.
  • Per the report, this poll is “the first in several weeks not to show the race as a dead heat.”
  • Graham pulling ahead may mean the fight over the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s vacant seat is mobilizing South Carolina voters, The Hill noted.
  • Confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s nominee to replace Ginsburg, began this week.

Previous Morning Consult polling in South Carolina conducted in mid-September, shortly before Ginsburg died, had Harrison and Graham essentially tied.

Last week, the nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report shifted its rating of the South Carolina race from “lean Republican” to “toss-up.”
