“MORNING JOE” SCANDAL: TRUMP MAY HAVE OPENED A NEW AVENUE OF INVESTIGATION FOR ROBERT MUELLER

President Donald Trump may have opened a new avenue of investigation for special counsel Robert Mueller.

Mr. Mueller can go wherever the evidence leads, no matter how tangentially related the “Morning Joe” scandal may seem to the Russia investigation. Nearly all of the same players are involved in both sets of controversies. In essence, they overlap.

The U.S. experienced this during the Republican investigations of President Bill Clinton. The letter appointing Mr. Mueller says he may investigate, “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”

According to Bloomberg magazine, “[these words] confer exceedingly broad authority, more than enough to let Mueller follow his investigation wherever it leads. Don’t forget Ken Starr’s investigation of President Bill Clinton, which began with the dud lead of the Whitewater scandal and ended with Monica Lewinsky and impeachment.”

Harvard Professor Lawrence Tribe and Mitchell Epner, a former assistant U.S. Attorney for the State of New Jersey, have alleged that the President should be investigated for at least two federal offenses in relation to the “Morning Joe” allegations; 18 U.S. Code § 872 and 18 U.S. Code § 875(d)

Mr. Mueller has the ability to pursue many avenues in his investigation of President Trump and his associates. It appears the President has opened another one for him to explore.
