CBS News political correspondent Ed O’Keefe tweeted on Monday that Vice President Mike Pence said President Donald Trump’s comment about slowing down testing was not meant as a joke. Rather, it was just “a passing observation.”

Pence reportedly made the remark while on a call with governors.

The vice president also said the administration “remains focused on rising cases in nine states, with the situation stable in the other 41 and that medical officials are seeing a growing trend of more people under age 45 testing positive for coronavirus,” according to O’Keefe.

Trump said during his Saturday night rally in Tulsa that he told officials to slow down testing , because the more testing that is done, the higher the case numbers will climb.
