Video and tweet of standing ovation. (you cannot see the standing ovation from the angle. However, it was reported in this tweet and the below article via the Washington Post).
In Munich, Germany, world leaders have gathered for the annual security conference. According to The Washington Post, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, alongside other Western allies, criticized the foreign policy of the Trump Administration.
In her speech, she “accused the United States of strengthening Iran and Russia with its plans for a speedy military pullout from Syria.” She then received a standing ovation from the crowd with only Ivanka Trump remaining seated.
“Now there’s a lot more openly displayed anger about the fact that the relationship is broken. The Trump administration doesn’t understand that it’s not just about how much people pay. It’s about a relationship, trust, how you communicate, shared values. That all matters.” -Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group
At the conference, Vice President Mike Pence also called onto European allies to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. Soon after, Joe Biden also joined the stage and stated his support for U.S. allies.
“The America I see does not wish to turn our back on the world or our closest allies. The America I see cherishes a free press, democracy, the rule of law. It stands up to the aggression of dictators and against strongmen.” -Joe Biden
