In the midst of President Donald Trump’s struggle for border wall funding, his supporters are stepping in with their own cash to help make the president’s signature campaign promise a reality, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
A GoFundMe campaign titled "We The People Will Fund The Wall" has raised [$858,961] and counting to build President Donald Trump's border wall.
"It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling," according to the campaign page, which is attributed to Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage Jr.
“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall,” Kolfage states on the GoFundMe page. "That equates to roughly $5 billion, even if we get half, that's half the wall. We can do this."
The campaign, which initially had a goal of $200 million but was raised to $1 billion, was created by a “fundraising team” in Miramar, Florida, the Caller-Times reported.
The president has asked Congress for $5 billion to construct his wall on the southern U.S. border — a barrier he originally claimed Mexico would pay for — but lawmakers appear unwilling to grant Trump the entire amount.
He has also claimed he will find the resources elsewhere, generally citing the military, to have his wall built if Congress does not cooperate.
On Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told Fox News the administration is exploring "different" sources to pay for his proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexican border, according to reports.
