Trump supporter who mailed pipe bombs to Democrats blames steroids - CBS News

CBS News reports that Cesar Sayoc, 57, who sent pipe bombs to many Democrats who were critics of President Trump, is now blaming his actions on steroids. Sayoc says he abused steroids for over 40 years.

In March, Sayoc pleaded guilty to sending the pipe bombs. He will serve a mandatory 10-year prison sentence and could face life in prison when he is sentenced in August. Sayoc’s lawyers have informed the case’s judge that a psychiatrist will compose a report on Sayoc’s steroid use.

Sayoc claims that when he mailed the 16 pipe bombs he never meant to hurt anyone. He sent bombs to CNN offices, Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, actor Robert DeNiro, and other members of Congress. The bombs were sent a few weeks before the 2018 midterm elections.

Thankfully, none exploded. Sayoc says this happened because he designed it that way.

In his letter to U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rashkoff, Sayoc explained that he had been abusing steroids for over 40 years and before he was arrested, was using 274 different supplements and vitamins as well as “heavy amounts of steroids.”

In his letter, Sayoc says his idea before mailing explosives “was how to tone down the liberal left violence platform” because he thought Democrats were encouraging violence. He claims to have been attacked when he returned to his hotel after going to Trump’s inauguration.

Sayoc also said that “leftist leadership” encouraged people to commit violence that resulted in $1,800 worth of damage to his van.

Since he was arrested in October, he has been held without bail. Before then he lived in his van, which was decorated with Trump stickers.

Since his imprisonment, Sayoc claims to have heard voices and suffer from depression, high anxiety, vertigo, and loneliness.

Sayoc says he was never political until Trump entered the political scene. He compared going to a Trump rally to a “new found fun drug.”
