Liz Cheney: The Ukraine Call Is 'Starting To Seem Like A Political Set Up'
Republican Rep. Liz Cheney accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of orchestrating a “political set up” to take down President Donald Trump on Monday.
The Hill reported that the Wyoming lawmaker said Pelosi knew details about Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s president — the central issue of the newly-launched impeachment inquiry into the president — before the White House made the call’s transcript public.
“.@SpeakerPelosi said on 60 Minutes last night she knew the details of the classified Ukraine call before White House released transcript,” Cheney wrote on Twitter, including a clip of Pelosi’s interview. “This is starting to seem like a political set up. So, Madame Speaker, ‘what did you know and when did you know it?’”
Pelosi said during the interview that Trump called her to say his call with President Volodymyr was “perfect.”
"He told me it was perfect," she said. "'There was nothing in the call.' But I know what was in the call. I mean, it was in the public domain. He didn’t even know that it was wrong."
Reports about the whistleblower complaint, as well as the phone call that sparked it, had already leaked to the press prior to Trump’s decision to release a rough transcript.
It was this information that prompted Trump to call Pelosi last week to proclaim his innocence and attempt to ward off an impeachment inquiry — though his attempt was unsuccessful.
