“I didn’t care about the obstruction of justice stuff. What I cared about was were you working with the Russians?”

Senator Lindsey Graham was not super concerned with whether or not President Donald Trump obstructed former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, he told reporters on Thursday.

His only concern was whether Trump had colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.

According to The Hill, the South Carolina Republican said, “I didn’t care about the obstruction of justice stuff. What I cared about was were you working with the Russians?”

Democrats in the House have renewed their interest in the Mueller report as they move forward with an impeachment inquiry initiated by a whistleblower complaint that the president abused the powers of his office for personal political gain.

Asked for his thoughts this week by reporters, Graham referred back to the notion that Trump couldn’t have obstructed justice if there was no underlying crime.

Graham also wrote off concerns over Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukraine’s president, which is at the center of the whistleblower complaint that sparked impeachment proceedings.

“There is no high crime or misdemeanor from the Mueller report and this whole transcript is a joke,” Graham said.

“If there had been real collusion between Trump and the Russians to get an advantage over his opponent, that would have been disqualifying,” he concluded. “I think all this other stuff is politically driven.”

It is worth noting that if Trump did in fact obstruct justice in the Mueller investigation, it would have been difficult for the special counsel to determine if he or his campaign did in fact collude with Russia in a criminal fashion.
