John Kelly, former White House chief of staff, said the media is not "the enemy of the people," like Trump says.

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly said you are not an “informed citizen” if the only source of news you get your information from is Fox News, according to The Hill

“The media, in my view, and I feel very strongly about this, is not the enemy of the people,” Kelly said while delivering remarks at Drew University. “We need a free media. That said, you have to be careful about what you are watching and reading, because the media has taken sides.”

“So if you only watch Fox News, because it’s reinforcing what you believe, you are not an informed citizen,” Kelly continued.

Kelly’s former boss, President Trump, has frequently made attacks on the press, referring to it as “the enemy of the people” on several occasions since taking office.

Kelly, who previously served as the Secretary of Homeland Security, also took aim at Trump’s past comments characterizing Mexican migrants as “rapists” and criminals, saying: “They’re overwhelmingly good people … They’re not all rapists and they’re not all murderers.”

“And it’s wrong to characterize them that way,” he added. “I disagreed with the president a number of times.”
