Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) continued his staunch defense of President Donald Trump on Sunday during an interview with Chuck Todd, host of NBC’s Meet the Press, saying he believes Trump has been truthful in his statements all along about Russia.
According to The Daily Beast, Jordan told Todd, “I don’t think the president has lied about Russia at all.”
Further, Jordan was unconvinced that Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election were intended to help Trump.
“Who knows why they did it?” the Republican said. “But there is zero evidence... I mean, they can do whatever they’re trying to do, who knows what their motives were? What I know is there is not one bit of evidence to show any type of coordination, collusion, conspiracy whatsoever between the Trump campaign and Russia to impact the election.”
Asked if he is concerned by Trump apparently surrounding himself with people who have been convicted of or plead guilty to lying to the FBI or Congress, Jordan said he is less bothered by that than the corruption he alleges took place within the FBI.
The lawmaker also repeated GOP claims that it was actually Hillary Clinton’s campaign that colluded with Russians to sway the election, saying, “There is all kinds of evidence to show that the Clinton campaign worked with Russians to impact the elections.”
