In 2019 Interview, Trump Implied He Has Been Treated Worse Than Slaves Were

William James

In an interview, President Donald Trump suggested that he's been treated worse than enslaved Africans were in America.

In an interview with ABC News, President Donald Trump told George Stephanopoulos that, "There's never been a time in the history of our country where somebody was so mistreated as I have been.”

If history is a truth-barometer, then the President is wrong.

Starting in 1619 until 1865, Americans of White European descent enslaved Africans stolen from the West Coast of Africa.

Historians believe that millions of Africans died while traveling to Western hemisphere during the ‘middle passage’.

Upon arrival in what would later become the United States, Africans enslaved by White colonists and later White-Americans, were treated with astounding brutality.

Families of the enslaved were routinely broken up by their masters, for profit, punishment, or for no reason at all. Sexual violence and rape were used to keep the enslaved in line. The children borne of these rapes were often enslaved alongside with their mother and siblings.

Americans tend to romanticize the relationship between the likes of President Thomas Jefferson and the enslaved Sally Hemings, however, Hemings had no legal right to resist the force of her owner since the law at the time considered her ‘property’.

Trump’s comment shows a mind that is ignorant of the most basic historical facts of the nation that he is supposed to lead.

Slavery was a terrible evil, but the slaves were not really stolen from Africa. They were bought. European explorers saw that the Yoruba and Housa Tribes in Africa enslaved the Ibo and sold Ibo slaves among themselves, and they got the idea of buying slaves for the American colonies trading rum for slaves whom the sold for sugar to sell to the English who made the rum which they traded for slaves. The inhumanity of man to man.

Read what you just wrote again. You just admitted that Europeans stole Africans from Africa!

👻 His people know that isn't true. I couldn't in all my life think a president of the United States would make such a remark. That's how far away from reality this mental case is.

This is SUPER disrespectful to MY people, who were raped, murdered, given table scraps for food (mind you they cooked it), and lived in HORRIBLE conditions. They built this country. The next time Trump, out on a pair of shoes, he needs to thank Jan Ernst Matzeliger. Had it not been for him, the soles of your shoes, would still be sown on by hand.

All this idiot does is make stupid comments to further hid effort to separate our country. Repubs that continue to support are on the same mission. Nobody hates this fool because of the party he represents but rather the bullshit he spews from his idiotic mouth. Regardless of whether or not you agree with his political views as a human being you should be ashamed of your messenger and if you are not you need to reevaluate yourself and you're capacity to think independently......or maybe you're just that ignorant also.

You can sell what you don't own. You can't buy what's not for sale. That's stealing. Dont minimize the immorality and atrocity of slavery. Yes there were some level of bartering that took place for access to opportunity but let's be real here.

I lived and worked in both West and East Africa for a decade during the 70's (Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia ). My youngest of 3 children was born in Accra, Ghana, I visited the Cape Coast and Elmena castles in Sekondi-Takoradi, in Ghana. I went down into the dungeons that still are there today 400 years later. I looked at the corroded balls and chains, eroded by time, that were use to shackle the slaves, who clearly did not want to be slaves. I stood in the church chapels where the Europeans worshipped, which were always directly above the slave dungeons below. Anyone who want to narrow that horrendous era down to a simple business trade transaction, is delusional. It is estimated that more than 50 million Africans died at the hands of European invaders ( 12 million alone in the Belgium Congo, under Belgium King Leopold ). Which explains why Africa today, the 2nd largest continent in the world, is so sparsely populated. It is the legacy of the Slave Trade, colonialism and neocolonialism. And BTW, African slaves were not just traded. European armies went deep into the interior, destroyed villages, killed, captured and marched captives on the long journeys to the coasts and to the slave castles for imprisonment and shipment off to the West. It is estimated that only 20% of all the slaves shipped off, ever reached the American shores. 80% died in-route, from diseases ( cholera, dysentery, etc). Many were beat to death for insurrections. Many threw themselves overboard, balls, chains, and all every chance they got. They preferred the unknown of the briny deep to the unknown of where they were being taken. The slave trade was abolished in the west because it was inhuman and uncivilized. When the slave trade ended in America in 1865, European Colonialism set in and continued for another 100 years of shear brutality, before it started to collapse. in the mid-60's. Portuguese colonialism did not end until the late 70's and South African Colonialism did not end until the early 90's. That was slavery. And neocolonialism is alive and well today in Africa. It is naive, delusional and disingenuous to reduce the slave trade down to a simple business trade transaction between Africans and Europeans.

I feel that this is taken out of context, You guys analyze this mans words too much. I would bet money that he was referring to being treated worse than any president in history, no sane person would think they have it worse than African slaves, it’s sucks that articles have to make up headlines just to get attention and it’s even worse that there’s idiots who believe in them
