President Donald Trump distanced himself this week from wealthy financier and accused child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, but there was a day when the two men shared a far friendlier tie.
According to The New York Times, Trump once threw an exclusive party at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, complete with more than two dozen women — but only he and Epstein were on the guest list.
“The year was 1992 and the event was a ‘calendar girl’ competition,” the Times wrote. “Something that George Houraney, a Florida-based businessman who ran American Dream Enterprise, had organized at Mr. Trump’s request.”
Houraney told the Times on Monday that he informed Trump he had arranged for 28 girls to attend the event and asked who all the-then real estate mogul had invited. Trump replied that it would be solely Epstein and himself at the party.
“I said, ‘Donald, this is supposed to be a party with V.I.P.s. You’re telling me it’s you and Epstein?’” Houraney recounted in the interview.
He then voiced his concern to Trump, Houraney recalled: “I said, ‘Look, Donald, I know Jeff really well, I can’t have him going after younger girls.’ He said, ‘Look I’m putting my name on this. I wouldn’t put my name on it and have a scandal.’”
Houraney told the Times he “pretty much had to ban Jeff from my events — Trump didn’t care about that.”
Trump highlighted this week that he has not spoken to Epstein in 15 years and said he was “not a fan” of the fallen socialite.
The White House did not respond to the Times’ request for comment.
