Head of House Intelligence Committee believes Prince lied about a January 2017 meeting.

According to The Independent, Head of House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff has announced that he will send the Department of Justice a criminal referral for the conduct of Erik Prince. Erik Prince is the founder of security company Blackwater, and he is a supporter of Trump.

Schiff said that there was evidence that Prince misled the committee. “The evidence is so weighty that the Justice Department needs to consider this,” Mr Schiff said. He continued that it would be the DOJ’s decision whether or not the allegations deserve criminal prosecution.

One part of the evidence Schiff referred to was a meeting between Prince and a Russian financier with ties to President Putin in January 2017. Prince claimed that the meeting happened by chance and was not taken at Trump’s request. Schiff and Democrats now believe that this testimony was false.

Prince has been asked if the meeting was an attempt to set up communications between Trump and Russia. Prince said he had “no official” role in the Trump campaign.

“We know from the Mueller report not that that was not a chance meeting,” Mr Schiff said. Schiff also said that the Mueller report showed Prince had “willingly misled” the committee.
