Head Of Minneapolis Police Union Calls George Floyd A “Violent Criminal”
Star Tribune reporter Libor Jany tweeted images of a letter allegedly sent to members of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis by the union’s president, Lieutenant Bob Kroll. The letter criticized George Floyd, local political leadership, and the media coverage.
Kroll claimed that “liberal media” failed to report on the “violent criminal history of George Floyd."
Kroll called Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) “clearly incompetent” and accused “politicians on the left” of “encouraging” the rioting.
Kroll alleged that he was a “visible target” and had received “countless death threats throughout this.”
He added, “I’ve worked with the four defense attorneys that are representing each of our four terminated individuals under criminal investigation, in addition with our labor attorneys to fight for their jobs. They were terminated without due process.”
Kroll also asserted,
What has been very evident throughout this process is you have lacked support from the top. This terrorist movement that is currently occurring was a long time build up which dates back years. Starting with minimizing the size of our police force and diverting funds to community activists with an anti-police agenda. Our chief requested 400 more officers and was flatly denied any. This is what led to this record breaking riot.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey criticized Kroll’s letter in a Tweet and wrote,
For a man who complains so frequently about a lack of community trust and support for the police department, Bob Kroll remains shockingly indifferent to his role in undermining that trust and support. His categorical opposition to reform, his consistent disrespect for civilian leadership, and his lack of empathy for the community have done more to undermine trust in police than any “community activist” ever has.
The New York Times reports that Floyd was arrested last week “after a deli employee called 911, accusing him of buying cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill.”
