GROUP OF EIGHTH GRADERS SNUB PAUL RYAN

A group of eighth graders from South Orange, NJ refused to take a photo with House Speaker Paul Ryan while visiting Washington, D.C. during a class trip.

The students were touring the Capitol when an opportunity arose for them to take a photo with the Speaker. More than half of the students refused to, some for political reasons, some for others not noted.

Parents of the students had a mixed a reaction. Some were proud that their child had taken an interest in politics while others thought the behavior was indecorous.

South Orange sits in Essex County, a part of New Jersey widely considered a Democratic stronghold.

A spokesman for Speaker Ryan said, “Speaker Ryan always appreciates the opportunity to welcome students to the Capitol.”
