GOP Senator Says EU Ambassador Told Him Ukraine Aide Was Tied To Investigations

According to an interview Senator Ron Johnson gave the Wall Street Journal, the Wisconsin Republican became aware in August that President Donald Trump was possibly withholding U.S. aid from Ukraine in return for a favor.
Johnson reportedly learned of the matter from U.S. ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland, who told the senator that assistance for Ukraine was linked to Trump’s desire that the country investigate matters related to the 2016 presidential election.
The senator said he spoke with Trump regarding the issue on August 31, at which time Johnson recalls the president responding: "He said--expletive deleted--'No way. I would never do that. Who told you that?"
