Sex crimes prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, hired by Republicans to question Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh during last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Ford’s sexual assault accusations against the Supreme Court nominee, was seen “laughing and tossing back beers” with committee Chairman Chuck Grassley’s staff on Friday.
According to RawStory, Huffington Post reporter Laura Bassett reported seeing Mitchell drinking with Grassley’s staff prior to sending her memo stating that no “reasonable prosecutor” would pursue Ford’s case.
Ford alleges that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her 35 years ago, when she was 15 and he was 17, during a house party where the nominee was “stumbling” drunk.
During the committee hearing, Mitchell questioned Ford and Kavanaugh, though after she began noting inconsistencies in his testimony, Republicans appeared to pull her from the process.
Bassett tweeted that she witnessed Mitchell with Grassley's staff, saying, "She was laughing and tossing back beers with Grassley's staff at Union Pub on Friday. She knows who she works for."
