GOP LAWMAKER SEEMS TO JUSTIFY HIS TRUMPCARE SUPPORT BY CLAIMING THAT THOSE IT HARMED DIDN’T VOTE FOR

During Rep. Thomas Garrett’s (R-VA) appearance on MSNBC today, Garret justified his Trumpcare vote by claiming that his constituents who voted for him wouldn’t be harmed by it.

“I would wager based on the locality that that particular event occurred in (his constituents had a healthcare protest outside one of his offices.)….that none of those people did vote for me. ” – Rep. Thomas Garrett (R-VA)

Speaking with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, Garrett admitted he had not read the bill in full and doubted that any representative actually had. “Let’s put it this way,” Garret said, “people in my office have read all parts of the bill…. That’s why we have staff.”

The MSNBC host showed Garrett a video of his constituents pleading with him about their genuine fears of dying due to Trumpcare,

Garret was unmoved by their concerns.

Rather than empathize with them, Garrett told his constituents to trust in the power of capitalism.

“What I would say is the free market health care system saved my mom’s life when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer 30 years ago, that the ability to innovate, the ability to let companies earn a profit to incentivize medical innovations saved my mom’s life.”

Trumpcare will deny coverage or make it unaffordable to people like Garret’s mother, however.

Following passage in the house, its next stop is the Republican-held Senate, where it is expected to face tougher scrutiny than the House.
