New York State Senate aide Robert W. Welch has resigned after a video surfaced that shows him using racial epithets towards a 13-year old girl and her friends, according to The Buffalo News.

  • Welch is the aide for State Sen. Robert G. Ortt, R-North Tonawanda.
  • In a video posted to Facebook by Carla Morano, the mother of the 13-year old who took the video, Welch was recorded verbally attacking the group of young girls.
  • The incident took place after the girls were “jumping over things” on their walk to a convenience store. When one of the kids jumped over a lawn sign, their toe caught on the sign, and a man and a woman emerged from the house. That man has been identified as Welch.
  • Welch and the woman proceeded to launch a tirade against the kids, using a number of racial slurs and threatening them.
  • Morano has reported the incident to the police, which was confirmed by Capt. Thomas Krantz, who oversees the department’s Detective Bureau. He said:

"We're working on it. It's under investigation. We may have more tomorrow, but we're still gathering all of our facts, interviewing witnesses and we're trying to grab videos. I really can't comment on anything right now."
