Georgia Polls Are Closed, But No Winner Announced Yet

Georgia has not disclosed who won the Senate runoff elections.

The polls are officially closed in the state, but the winners are too close to call. This is a crucial event for the United States because it will determine which party controls the Senate for the next two years. Democrats could push their agenda with a majority in the House and Senate. Republicans want to maintain their majority so that they can keep President-elect Joe Biden in check.

Incumbent David Perdue, a 71-year old Senator who just finished his first term on Sunday, is running against 33-year-old Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler is running against Democrat Raphael Warnock.

The elections went to runoffs since none of the candidates got more than 50 percent of the vote.
